Overview The Australian National University (ANU) is unique among its contemporaries as the only Australian university established by an Act of Federal Parliament, in 1946. It is also one of Australia’s most research-intensive universities, with a high ratio of academic staff to students. The University is currently ranked 16th in the world. As a volunteer, you are an ambassador for the ANU. Your efforts in positively promoting the institution and providing information and access to the ANU and International Student Services (ISS) for students old and new are important to the ongoing success of International Education Program. As a volunteer you will be provided with valuable and interesting opportunities and information about the ANU, Canberra and Australia, and of course the many events, programs and activities that the ANU provides. You will also receive a free ANU Tshirt. The ISS at ANU recognises that volunteers have diverse skills, expectations and backgrounds. ISS volunteers are responsible for carrying out a variety of duties and task for and with ISS staff. But most of all you are responsible for enjoying yourselves and having a wonderful time. Duties and ResponsibilitiesAs a ISS volunteer you must; - represent and promote the IEO and The Australian National University and its various programs and events positively at all times;
- provide information and assistance as required;
- work with ANU staff to deliver successful events, activities and programs;
- be polite, courteous and well presented at all times; and
- be progressing Academically.
Desirable Skills- good communication skills;
- previous public contact experience;
- enjoy BBQ’s, travel, conversation and helping people;
- flexibility in working with others, being a good team player; and
- sense of humor.
Requirements- attendance at orientation and training where required;
- complete appropriate application form and other administrative forms; and
- sign in and out for each shift where required.
Work AreasTypically you could be called upon to assist in some of the activities below: BBQ Assistance - assist IEO staff to prepare and run BBQ’s;
- distribute food and drink; and
- provide information and as required.
Campus Guide- take visitors on tours of the campus;
- provide breaks/relief for staff and other volunteers; and
- provide information as required.
Orientation Assistant - assist in set up and preparation;
- talk to students; and
- sell tickets
- other duties as required
