Schooling for children
Your Child’s SchoolingAccording to the law, all school aged-aged children in Australia, regardless of residential status (that is, temporary or permanent), must enrol at the appropriate school level. Non-Australian permanent residents may have to pay tuition fees for their child’s compulsory schooling. You are exempt from paying tuition fees for your school-aged child only if you are in th efollowing category: - An Australian Government scholarship holder (for example, AusAID, OPRS, IPRS)
- An ANU Tuition Fee Scholarship holder;
- A refugeee
- An Exchange student; or
- A foreign diplomat
To check your eligibility for a fee waiver please read the ACT Department of Education's charging policy. If you belong to one of the above exemption categories, you must produce clear proof of your how you are exempt to the ACT Department of Education and Training when applying for your child’s enrolment. You can request a letter stating these details at the IEO. OTHER FEES AND CHARGES (effective 2009)Application fee (once only and not refundable) A$220 (with Initial Application) Tuition and Administrative fees: Primary Introductory English Centre A$9 500 (with Acceptance of Offer of Place) Secondary Introductory English Centre A$13 500 (with Acceptance of Offer of Place) This fee covers school tuition plus Parental Voluntary Contribution, textbook hire and consumable charges. It does not include the costs of materials used by students to make items which they take away from the school. Nor does this fee cover excursion costs. Please note that late payment of tuition fees by new or returning students will incur a $550 (GST inclusive) surcharge. All fees are to be paid by bank cheque in Australian dollars. Tuition fees are non-refundable unless the applicant is unsuccessful in gaining a visa or in certain other (special) circumstances.
