ACT Police

In Canberra we have a number of organizations that can assist you if you have been or know someone who is the victim of crime.  

 ACT Policing works in partnership with the community to create a safer and more secure Australian Capital Territory

through the provision of quality police services. 

 
  • Which number should I call if my life is being threatened?
    The 000 emergency number remains the number to call if your life is at risk. 
  • Which number do I call if I have been in a car accident but nobody got hurt?
    If you have been involved in an accident but nobody's life is at risk, call the new police assistance number on 131 444.
  • Should I call the police assistance line if I have had something stolen from my home?
    Yes, you can ring the police assistance number and the operator will put you through to the relevant area.
  • I have noticed some suspicious activity going on at the local school/next door, do I call the police assistance line?
    Yes. If you think that there may be criminal activity taking place in your neighbourhood call 131 444 to speak to police.
  • If I have some information regarding a crime that has already occurred in the ACT should I call the new police assistance number?
    No. You should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to report any information that may assist police with solving a crime.
  • If I have a general enquiry that I wish to discuss with ACT Policing which number should I call?
    If you have a general enquiry you wish to discuss with a member of ACT Policing call the Australian Federal Police switch on (02) 6256 7777.
