Note: Grade Point Averages. For the purposes of the Student Mobility Program Grade Point Averages are calculated on the grade received (HD, D, C, P, N) and not the overall percentage received for a class.

Students transferring to ANU from other institutions should consult with their college office before applying to participate in the exchange program.

The Exchange program is also open to Postgraduate students who have received College or Departmental approval to participate.   Please check directly with your College and the Student Mobility Program before applying.

Ideally students should be active members of the ANU community and have a genuine interest in the people and culture of the country in which they are applying to study. If nominated, students are expected to act as ambassadors for ANU and Australia while abroad.  International students studying at ANU will not be permitted to return to their home country on an exchange placement.

Nomination by ANU will be based upon the following selection criteria:

  • academic history and records
  • personal motivation
  • involvement in ANU and community activities
  • number of applications received
  • number of exchange places available

Duration

Although students are encouraged to apply for a full year exchange placement, one semester placements are equally possible.

Please note that a full year exchange does not need to take place within the same calendar year.

College Specific Exchanges

Some exchanges may be restricted to students enrolled in the Year-in-Asia Specialist Program, the School of Art and School of Music or a particular College/School. Exchanges in non-English speaking countries such as Japan, Korea, Chile, China, Colombia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, France, Germany and Italy will normally require fluency in the language.
