Student Exchange Application Process
Step 1 – Do Your Homework Find out about the Exchange program by reading through all the relevant information on the Exchange website. Check your eligibility and think about how you will finance your exchange. You also need to attend an Exchanges Information Session, and be prepared to attend an interview, a Nomination Briefing and a Pre-Departure Briefing. It is your responsibility to fully research the institutions at which you want to study to ensure that courses relevant to your ANU degree are available. Visit our partner institutions’ websites, or drop in to our resource library at the International Education Office, where you will find partner institutions’ handbooks, catalogues and other general information. Students interested in Faculty-Specific exchanges should check with the Exchange Coordinator before submitting an application. Step 2 – Make An Application After researching several exchange options, you will need to complete application(provided at the information session). Please complete all the details, include all required supplementary documents and submit the application before the closing dates for the Exchange Nomination rounds. It is your responsibility to read the information available and inform yourself about all aspects of the application process. As the number of places available to ANU students at host institutions is limited, the selection for exchange places is competitive. Applicants are short listed according to the criteria and the Exchanges Selection Committee then interviews all those who meet those criteria. The informal interviews are about 15 minutes long, and allow you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your application with the Committee. After the interviews, applicants are further shortlisted and the successful ones are nominated for exchange. Step 3 - Accept your Exchange Nomination You will receive your Exchange Nomination by official letter. You are required to accept your nomination by the date specified to confirm your commitment to participate in the program. Students that withdraw from the exchange Program after they have accepted their nomination letter will incur a withdrawal fine of $100. The only exception allowed is if the withdrawal is justified owing to extraordinary circumstances deemed beyond your control by the Registrar. Step 4 – Attend A Nomination Briefing If you are successful in obtaining nomination for an Exchange, you will be required to attend an Exchange Nomination Briefing. This information session will allow you to ask the Visiting Student Team specific questions about exchange and the process you will need to undertake in the coming months. Step 5 – Applying To Your Host University Once you have attended the Nomination Briefing you will need to apply formally to your host institution. The relevant application forms are available from the Visiting Student Officer in the International Education Office. As the exchange works on the basis of a reciprocal tuition waiver, students are also required to enrol in a minimum of 24 units/semester at ANU while on exchange. Please do not attempt to make visa and travel arrangements until your participation in the exchange has been officially confirmed by both ANU and the host institution. Step 6 – Finalise Your Exchange After you have been advised of your nomination you should obtain written approval from your faculty for the courses of study you wish to undertake at your host university. This assists you to obtain the required academic credit for subjects you successfully complete while you are away. . |
