ANU offers 175 additional undergraduate places, 13 new programs and Arts enrolments up by a third

Today 1,480 students from the ACT and NSW will receive their main round university offers to The Australian National University through UAC. 175 additional undergraduate places have been offered which will be great news for many school leavers waiting by their letter boxes today.

The offers for places at the ANU have been sent by post from the Universities Admission Centre in NSW. A total of 2,580 offers (including 90 full-fee paying overseas students) have now been sent out in the 2002 Preliminary and Main Round. 634 school leavers from the ACT (192) and NSW (442) will be among those to receive places today.

The Main Round offers maintain the cut-off marks of the Preliminary Round. The ANU has offered places to students with UAIs of 92 for Law, 86 for Actuarial Studies, 82 for Engineering, Photonics and Computational Science, 77 for specialist Asian Studies programs, 73 for Medical Science and 70 for all other degrees.

There has been a 31 per cent increase in applications for courses offered by the ANU Faculty of Arts. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Adam Shoemaker, puts the renaissance down to the distinctive nature of the ANU Arts Faculty and academic innovation.

"The ANU Faculty of Arts not only has the ideal physical location but the tradition it's grown from makes the education students receive here unique. The strong research culture goes hand in hand with a rich undergraduate experience. Students can expect to be taught by leaders in their field, both national and international."
