New ANU courses on show at Open Day
The Australian National University will showcase 10 new undergraduate
courses during this year's Open Day festivities. Over 3000 potential new
recruits are expected to turn out for See
your Future - Open Day, 2001 (Saturday 1 September).
The visit is a rare opportunity for senior school students to explore
the details, of the latest courses on offer. Some of the new courses include
two degrees from the Faculty of Arts - The BA International Relations
and the BA (Social Work) - (a joint degree with The Australian Catholic
University). Science buffs can study a Bachelor of Biotechnology, Medical
Science or Photonics and those with an interest in economics can look
into a Bachelor of e-Commerce or Finance, both on offer for the first
time this year.
Open days are one of the most important parts of student recruitment.
"It's vital for senior students to attend these types of events because
they need all the information they can take on board, before they make
one of the most crucial decisions of their lives," ANU Open Day coordinator
Mark Priddle said.
Students from around the Canberra region and interstate will arrive this
weekend to familiarise themselves with ANU's academic studies and campus
facilities. There will be double the number of information sessions this
year, including a new parents session.
"Parents can sometimes feel a little left out when visiting the University
on Open Day, so we decided to include a session specifically for parents
in the schedule, covering costs, expectations and student support." Mr
Priddle said.
The University has organised a full day of activities including:
- A Year 10 special information session, about ANU courses, uni life
and how to get there
- accommodation and campus tours
- interactive displays - a special Parents Information Session with the
University's administrative and support staff
- visual art displays, theatre, music performances and auditions
