ANU seeks foundation Dean for medical school
Preparations for The Australian National University's new medical school
progress this week when advertisements for a foundation Dean begin appearing
in the national and international press.
The foundation Dean of Medicine will be responsible for developing an
innovative undergraduate curriculum with a rural and community focus for
the graduate-entry medical program. ANU's medical school, announced last
month, is being developed with appropriate collaboration with the University
of Canberra and the Commonwealth, ACT and NSW Departments of Health, and
is expected to take its first students in 2004.
Professor Ian Chubb, ANU's Vice-Chancellor, said that the Dean, who
will be the academic and administrative leader of the Faculty, would have
an outstanding academic record in medicine with previous success in building
and sustaining an excellent team.
"The Dean will lead a Faculty that produces outstanding graduates, enhances
health care services and deliver excellent teaching and research," Professor
Chubb said.
Professor Chubb said that the University may also appoint an Associate
Dean from the applicants for the Dean's position.
He expected an appointment of the Dean to be made before the end of the
year.
