Meeting of the Minds: World Scientists Flock to Canberra

Leading scientists from around the world will flock to Canberra from 30 September to 4 October to participate in ComBio 2001.

ComBio 2001 is a combined conference of biochemists, molecular and cell biologists, and plant physiologists. A significant number of those attending work in the fields of 'Proteomics' a new area of research that is already impacting on medicine and agriculture.

Professor Kiaran Kirk, Chair of the Organising Committee says the conference, which has attracted plenary speakers from around the world, is another great opportunity for Canberra to shine as 'The Nation's Capital'.

"The conference will tackle a variety of topics that encompass both medical, plant and environmental issues. Scientists from all over Australia as well as from overseas, will be presenting their very latest discoveries in each of these areas," said Professor Kirk.

Topics under the microscope for discussion include:

Molecular Mechanisms in Biology
Metabolism and Membranes
Protein Structure and Function Proteomics
Cell Biology
Developmental Biology
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
Plant Molecular Genetics

The eight thematic 'streams' will run concurrently throughout the conference. The conference fully integrates the four participating groups, The Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), the Australian and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology (ANZSCBD), the Australian Society of Plant Physiologists (ASPP) and the Pacific Rim International Proteomics Conference (IPC2001).

Speaker timetables are available. Click here.

A media room, with phone and fax facilities, is available for any media who wish to interview plenary speakers after their presentation.

Information on each plenary speaker, biography and abstract is also available.
