National careers advisers gather at the ANU
About 40 careers advisers from high schools across Australia
will arrive at the ANU next week for a special two-day visit.
The ANU's Student Recruitment Office has organised the
Interstate Careers Advisers Information Visit (22-24 April) to provide
practical information for teachers. It will include tours, Faculty talks
and overviews of ANU courses, accommodation and lifestyle.
Following the success of last year's visit, thirty-seven
advisers will attend the conference to learn more about the ANU, and Canberra.
"It's crucial in our role as Australia's national University,
that we reach students from across the country," Ms Clara Hill, Student
Recruitment Assistant Manager, said.
"Careers advisers come to the campus and experience what
the University has to offer, which means students get a first hand account
of what's available at the ANU."
"This year, there was a huge demand from advisers, with
twenty-six newcomers to the event. Positive feedback from previous visits
indicates advisers consider the conference a valuable experience. After
interacting with the ANU community and getting a 'feel' for the city,
they're encouraging their students to study at the ANU," said Ms Hill.
Advisers from as far as Tasmania and South Australia will
arrive on Sunday. On Monday 24 April, ANU Vice-Chancellor Ian Chubb will
welcome the group and open the two-day program that includes speakers
from six ANU Faculties, an overview of accommodation and a dinner with
guest speaker Dr Patricia Miller, Head of Student Administration and Student
Services.
