ANU students set to study in world-class French institutions
Three Australian National University students have won prestigious Baudin
Scholarships funded by the French Government. The local students impressed
selectors and stood out from the cream of the national undergraduate crop
to win the places, there are only 12 offered each year. The successful
students will be presented with their scholarships tomorrow Friday 23
November.
Only the most outstanding students in their year qualify to apply for
the $2000 awards and those selected will have the adventure of a lifetime,
spending a year living and studying in France.
"These students have continued a proud ANU tradition in this highly
competitive field," ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Chubb said.
" I am especially impressed by the wide-ranging nature of their studies.
Combining a language with other disciplines is never easy ¾ it's
a tough, academic challenge."
Suzannah Hetherington will further her scientific studies, working in
a world-class microbiology lab in Grenoble. Johanna Taylor is to study
Arts/Law at the renowned Institut d'Etudes Politiques and Kelisiana Thynne
will undertake her studies at the University of Lyon.
The students are excited and focused on the next year. "I am so
thrilled to have this opportunity, it's something I couldn't have done
without winning this scholarship," student Suzannah Hetherington
said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge of living and working
in a foreign country and studying biochemistry and molecular biology in
French!"
The French Ambassador M. Pierre Viaux will present the successful students
with their Baudin Scholarships tomorrow and the Vice-Chancellor will give
them matching ANU Excellence fund scholarships in recognition of their
achievements.
