1997 UNIVERSITY OFFERS: NO DROP IN ANU
CUT-OFF SCORES
Unlike many other universities, for the second year running the Australian
National University has not dropped entrance cut-off scores in the main
round of offers being announced on 24 January.
Across the six Faculties, the ANU had almost exactly the same number
of applicants nominating the ANU as their first preference for study, compared
with 1996.
1350 applicants will receive offers on 24 January to enter undergraduate
courses at the ANU for the 1997 academic year. Together with the 905 offers
made in the preliminary round, the ANU is making a total of 2255 offers.
Professor Richard Campbell, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chair, Board of the
Faculties said that there were still vacancies in all ANU courses available
to suitably qualified applicants.
"We are pleased that our courses are proving attractive, although
there are still opportunities for people to change their preferences, or
to make a late application, and seek admission to an ANU course," said
Professor Campbell.
"I would encourage anyone with a TER above our cut-offs to consider
the high standing of an ANU degree and change their preference. They will
be offered a place in their most favoured course in the final round of offers."
1997 entrance cut-off scores have been maintained at the 1996 cut-off
marks. Arts, Asian Studies, Commerce, Economics, Information Technology,
and Science at ANU all have a cut-off of 60. Scores for some of the specialist
degree courses are:
Bachelor of Laws: 90
Bachelor of Engineering: 84
Bachelor of Economics (Actuarial): 80
Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist): 70.
Applicants wanting to change their preferences for admission to 1997
university courses should do so through the Universities Admissions Centre
by 29 January, following the instructions in the UAC Guide. Anyone who wants
to make a late application or discuss changes to preferences should contact
the ANU Admissions Office directly on (06) 249 5594/3046. Those interested
in applying for a course in Music or the Visual Arts should contact the
University's Institute of the Arts on (06) 249 5711.
Sue Bishop, Co-ordinator of Student Promotions and Recruitment at ANU,
will also be available to answer questions at the Career Reference Centre,
Times Square Building, corner of Cooyong and Mort Streets, City, phone (06)
240 7994, on Friday 24 and Tuesday 28 January from 9 to 5 pm. General advice
will also be available.
