Kim Beazley served in numerous senior ministerial positions in the Australian Government throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Minister for Defence (1984-90) and Deputy Prime Minister (1995-96). He was Leader of the Australian Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1996 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2006. A Rhodes Scholar and Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Western Australia, he was recently named Chancellor of The Australian National University.
