Ian Chubb to lead ANU until 2012
Australia's top-ranked university is to be led by Professor Ian Chubb AC until December 2012.
The University Council unanimously agreed to extend Professor Chubb's contract as Vice-Chancellor for an additional three years. His previous contract was set to expire in December 2009.
ANU Chancellor Dr. Allan Hawke said Professor Chubb had shown exemplary leadership since he took up his appointment in January 2001.
“Professor Ian Chubb is the finest leader in Australian higher education today and has shown exemplary leadership not just for the ANU, but for the sector as a whole,” Dr Hawke said.
“The Council believes that the future of the ANU depends on having sound strategic leadership, and there is no leader better equipped to take the University forward.
“Professor Chubb has earned enormous respect within the ANU, across Australia and internationally for his vision, his relentless commitment to excellence and his integrity."
The Council's decision followed the recommendations of the Council Committee on Conditions of Appointment of The Vice-Chancellor, which reviews Professor Chubb's performance annually.
