At the IARU President's meeting in March 2007, Presidents signed off on a suite of Campus Sustainability Principles and objectives designed to help improve the environmental performance of partner universities.
Included in these principles is a commitment to work towards international best practice in campus sustainability, promote ecological literacy, and work together to exchange information and establish common sustainability metrics. For more about the IARU Campus Sustainability Program see http://www.iaruni.org/sustainability and for further information on the Sustainability Principles, contact: Mr Bart Meehan Associate Director Business and Site Services Facilities and Services (Tel: +61 2 6125 4148) bart.meehan@anu.edu.au IARU Student Sustainability Exchange As part of the IARU Campus Sustainability Program, the Sustainability Offices at participating institutions have developed a student exchange program during the northern hemisphere summer break. In 2009, ANUgreen will send three students on a six week Sustainability Internship to our IARU partner institutions including ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, Peking University, University of Copenhagen, University of Oxford, University of Tokyo and Yale University. Students will work closely with professionals at each of these universities to support campus sustainability initiatives. Project topics range from energy conservation, transport and waste reduction to student outreach and community engagement. Students will live in campus housing and work in the university’s sustainability office for the duration of the program. The internship offers a stipend and paid travel expenses.
