‘Oldest canoe’ found
A team from ANU and the National Museum of Australia has unearthed an ancient log canoe, which is possibly the oldest remaining log canoe in Southeast Asia. The canoe, which dates back to 100BC, was excavated at a site 50km southeast of Hanoi in Vietnam and contained an adult body covered by a shroud and surrounded by pottery, a lacquer bowl and prehistoric matting.

Preferences, entry scores up
The number of undergraduate first preferences for ANU rose this year, while UAI entry scores are likely to go up to 85 for most large undergraduate courses and as high as 95 for Law and Actuarial Studies in 2005.

DIY parking permits
Staff and students are now able to apply and pay for parking permits online. The new system allows staff to arrange parking through ANUBIS, the same system used to access pay slips and leave information. BPay is also available under the new system.
