People@ANU
Age: 35 Job: Associate Lecturer — Information Systems and PhD Candidate Where were you born? Tamworth, NSW How long have you worked at ANU? Since January 2003 Currently working on: Researching the ‘Adoption and Effective Use of ICTs in Australian Indigenous Communities’. Through this research I have received a personal invitation from the Director of the Centre for Community Networking and Information Policy Studies in Russia to attend a Community Informatics Workshop in Moscow in June. I will be one of three Australians to attend. How did you spend your lunch break today? I shared it with my colleagues at Calypso’s. What’s your favourite place at ANU and why? The Jabal Centre. It gives me a chance to yarn to other Indigenous staff and students. It also gives me a chance to go for a walk and think about other things that are important to me like Indigenous higher education. When was the last time you became lost on campus? Quite recently I attended a class in FSTY 103. I found the building but finding the room was challenging. Favourite place to eat in Canberra: A colleague introduced me to the Flavours of India in Garema Place recently. Spicy food… Mmmmmmm. Currently reading — what's it about? I find it difficult to find the time to read anything other than material related to my research. I am currently reading Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations. It’s about how humans adopt innovations and among other things looks at the consequences of innovations. What couldn’t you live without and why? I couldn’t live without my partner Jenni. She is everything to me and supports me in everything I do. I also couldn’t live without my six children. What do you do to unwind? Cycling home is a good start then playing with my children. What would you do if you had 24 hours left to live? I would pack the trailer and go camping with my partner and children on the coast in a National Park somewhere. If you could change one thing about Canberra what would it be? Make Parliament House a state of its own so all of my family and friends outside the ACT stop giving me a hard time about the statement in the news “Canberra has decided” or “Canberra said”. As if all Canberrans get together and decide what is good for Australia. Who would you like to play you in the film of your life and why? Russell Crowe. He’s a bit rough around the edges which is a trait that I have kept from my motor mechanic days. Who would you most like to go sailing on Lake Burley Griffin with and why? My children so they have to listen to my stories and they can’t escape. Contents |
