More than 130 cyclists took part in Ride to Work Day breakfasts at ANU this month, with organisers predicting these numbers would be among the highest in the ACT.
Environmental Manager David Carpenter from ANU Green said Ride to Work Day is organised by Pedal Power to encourage the use of alternative forms of transport.
“Our last survey in 2003 found there were 1800 people who cycle to the University. Judging by the number I see around campus now, I’d say that number is up around the 2000 mark,” he said.
Mr Carpenter said ANU Green has recently completed building three new bike sheds, with more to be built soon.
