ACT Senator and ANU graduate Gary Humphries
|
ACT Senator Gary Humphries described ANU as a “powerhouse of creativity and energy” prior to a meeting with some of the University’s elite students recently.
The Liberal senator was guest of honour at a meeting of the ANU Golden Key Society, which provides networking opportunities and support for those students who consistently earn top marks.
Over 50 members were given a behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament House during the evening event, including a look at the offices of the Prime Minister.
Senator Humphries spoke to the group about how his experience as an ANU student prepared him for a career in public life, and urged them to take full advantage of all the University offers.
“I’m an old-fashioned believer in excellence and encouraging endeavour, and believe this is a way to promote people who have done well,” he said.
“We value people who do good things, and at ANU, where the students have to reach a certain standard in the first place, the Golden Key society recognises those who’ve done especially well.
“It’s good to meet with these students, as this is a way of keeping in touch with the University. ANU is a real powerhouse of energy and creativity in the middle of our community. We should all be taking opportunities to find out what is happening there.”
