ANU performs strongly in rankings and funding rounds
ANU was named the top university in Australia in the latest international table – an achievement backed up by success in two new national funding rounds.
The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) 2006 World University Rankings placed ANU sixteenth, up from 23 last year. It was the only Australian university ranked in the top 20.
The THES rankings are determined by peer review, the views of recruiters, the number of academic citations, staff-to-student ratios, and the number of international staff and students.
ANU also performed well in the latest funding round from the Australian Research Council, winning more than $40 million for 100 new Discovery Projects, 13 Linkage Projects, and four Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Proposals.
The funding will support a diverse range of research projects, looking at subjects such as sustainable farming, HIV/AIDs prevention, and the prevention of environmental degradation.
The University was also awarded more than $13.5 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council, which will back research into mental health, cancer treatment, and malaria.
