Gillies to head US development office

ANU will tap into potential research funding in the United States through a new Development and Alumni Office.

Professor Malcolm Gillies
The Yale-based office will be led by current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Malcolm Gillies, who has been appointed Vice-President (Development). He is expected to begin the role at the start of October.

“ANU recognises that it needs to draw on all forms of support for its research and education endeavours,” Professor Gillies said. “I can’t think of a better place to be developing those relationships than at Yale University.

“It’s very exciting and I think it’s vitally important for the maintenance of our research prowess that ANU tap into emerging opportunities with various research funds and philanthropic institutions in North America.”

Working from an office at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, Professor Gillies will also spend time in Washington and New York during the two-year appointment.

The Development and Alumni Office will also become a hub for the 800 ANU alumni currently working and studying the in the US.

ANU is a partner with Yale in the International Alliance of Research Universities.
