Yale beckons Tillyard Prize winner

The recipient of the University’s most prestigious award for undergraduates is bound for Yale University on a full PhD scholarship.

Tillyard Prize winner Jennifer Wellington is bound for Yale.
Law and arts graduate Jennifer Wellington received the Tillyard Prize at the morning graduation ceremony on 14 July.

She was chosen for the $1,000 prize for her contributions to the campus and Canberra communities, which included founding the ANU St Vincent de Paul conference.

“I’m amazed and touched that people would think highly enough of me to nominate me for this,” she said.

Ms Wellington, who received first-class honours in history and law, has also been awarded a six-year scholarship to Yale to complete a PhD in history.

Other students recognised for excellence at the conferring of degrees ceremonies this month included Patrick Scott, who was only the second student in the University’s history to receive two university medals in science. Mr Scott received top honours in neuroscience and astronomy and astrophysics.

University medals were also awarded to Asian studies/law graduate Jennifer Robinson and Asian studies graduates Petra Mahy and Penelope Coutas.
