ANU is one of the major Canberra sponsors of the short film festival Tropfest, which will be screened in Commonwealth Park on Sunday, February 26 to coincide with screenings in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Hobart and Brisbane. Students of the ANU Centre for New Media Arts have been involved in producing a showcase of digital media and art to be exhibited on the night. Gates open from 5pm and the screening begins at 7.30pm.

ANU connection for Governor
A member of the board of the Australian Phenomics Facility at ANU, Professor David de Kretser, has been appointed Governor of Victoria. Professor de Kretser is a renowned medical scientist and represents one of the APF's partner institutions, Monash University, on its board.
Scientists in the running
The Department of Science, Education and Training is calling for nominations for the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science. Scientists and science teachers can nominate for one of five categories, with prize money ranging from $300,000 to $50,000.

Publishing fame awaits
Allen & Unwin is offering the Iremonger Award for Writing on Public Issues, an award for non-fiction works of political, social and cultural commentary that deal with contemporary Australian issues. On offer is prize money of $10,000, guaranteed publication, royalties on book sales, and editorial support to develop the proposal into a finished manuscript. Entires close on 25 August 2006.
