Professor B.B. Bhattacharya discusses research partnerships with Professor Malcolm Gillies. |
Professor B.B. Bhattacharya was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the New Delhi–based JNU late last year.
His visit to Canberra provided an opportunity to further develop plans for research and resource sharing between ANU and JNU, outlined in a 2004 memorandum of understanding.
“Knowledge is now universal, especially at the highest levels,” Professor Bhattacharya said. “There needs to be interaction of scholars from all over the world.”
“Both ANU and JNU are research universities, and as such we have the common issue of sharing research.”
Professor Bhattacharya met with Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Malcolm Gillies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Lawrence Cram, and Student Recruitment and International Education Director Tim Beckett.
“As a result of Professor Bhattacharya’s visit we'll establish exchange arrangements for staff and students in several areas of the social sciences,” Professor Gillies said.
“These collaborations may grow to other areas of knowledge in the years to come.”
Professor Bhattacharya also gave a public lecture on the Indian economy.
