Academic expertise and public debate
With more than 10,000 mentions a year in the Australian media, ANU staff are amongst the most active in Australia in engaging in public debates through the media and other forums. That is part of our role as the national university, and the Vice-Chancellor has made it clear that academic staff can anticipate the support of the University when engaging in public debate using their expertise to inform that debate. The paper on academic expertise and public debate adopted by the Council on 23 February last year can be found at here (PDF)

Call for aspiring Socceroos and Matildas
Aspiring Socceroos or Matildas can take the first step to national selection by participating in the Purple Shin. The Purple Shin is a social soccer competition for ANU staff and postgraduate students and an ANU institution that goes back to the early 1970s. Games are usually held once a week either on Tuesday or Thursday, at lunchtime. Teams are mixed and women are encouraged to play. The competition will begin informally in April and formally in May and there is no cost to participate in the competition, just your pride. If you are interested in playing or entering a new team, please contact the organisers Tim or Jerry.

Visiting Yale Alumni
ANU Alumna Bronwyn Fagan is opening her door to Yale alumni visiting ANU in August as part of the Yale/ANU Exchange program. Alumni Relations invite you to do the same as they seek home stay hosts for the four night visit. "There's so many things you can get out of uni and get out of the contacts that you develop but it needs to go further," Bronwyn said. "Yale does that so well, tapping into the opportunities that their alumni can offer. For me personally, it's very interesting to hear what they do and have the opportunity to meet people who have achieved a lot in their careers." For more information, click here

Go8 Future Research Leaders Program
In 2007, the Group of Eight received a grant through the Commonwealth Government’s Workplace Productivity Program to develop a 'Future Research Leaders Program' to support the development of Australia’s future research leaders. The aim of the program is to develop the skills and knowledge critical for research leadership through a number of custom-designed modules which will be rolled out from April 2008. The program is targeted towards early to mid-career researchers working towards research leadership roles. If you would like more information or would like to participate, please click here or contact Tom Hammond, or phone 612 59243.

Understanding & Implementing Workplace Change
