Innovation ANU
Innovation ANU is a new program designed to encourage ANU students and staff to develop their ideas and research into commercially viable products and services. Participants will create commercialisation and business plans to compete for over $50,000 in prize money. The winners, and other participants, will also receive support to develop the most promising ideas. An introductory session will be held on 19 March at 6pm, check Billboard for further details.
Health & Safety Management Arrangements
It’s time to have your say in ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all ANU employees. A draft Health and Safety Management Arrangement (HSMA) document has been developed by the OHS Policy Committee and reviewed by the University Staff Consultative Committee. A HSMA should cover how we can all work together to effectively manage our workplace health and safety issues and should be flexible and efficient, encouraging cooperation in promoting and developing measures to improve the workplace. Harmony Day
Celebrate our campus community’s religious and cultural diversity with the ANU Harmony Day celebrations on 13 March. From cultural performances to an inter-faith BBQ and international beer festival, the day will be a mini Multicultural Festival. More details will be available through ANUSA closer to the date.

Student Services
The student services counter in the Pauline Griffin Building will have extended opening hours between 18 February and 7 March. The counter will be open between 8.30am and 6pm and the cashier between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
Semester One Fees
Semester One invoices for continuing students were emailed to the students email account on Wednesday the 13 February. Fees (DTF ISF and Commonwealth Supported payments) are due by the 14 March 2008 and payments made after this date will incur a $125.00 late fee. The next invoice run will occur during the week of 25 February. Brick payments are being taken at the Manning Clark Centre now and will continue there until Friday 7 March. After the 7 March payment will be taken at the Pauline Griffin Building. Science bricks may be purchased and collected from the Co-Op book shop.

Awards
Six ANU students triumphed over Japanese and international students from top universities in Japan, at the 6th Intercollegiate Negotiation and Arbitration Competition held in Tokyo. The annual mooting competition is conducted entirely in Japanese and was won by an ANU team for the second year in a row.
Selwyn Cornish from Toad Hall was named Asia Pacific Advisor of the year at the recent Golden Key Student Honours Society Asia Pacific conference in Christchurch NZ. Selwyn was the inaugural advisor to the ANU chapter of Golden Key and is the only advisor from the Asia Pacific region to have won the award twice. PhB Science graduate Natalie Spillman was also honoured at the conference with a Golden Key scholarship.
ANU alumnus and Indonesian State Minister of Research and Technology, Dr Kusmayanto Kadiman, has won an Australian Alumni Award for Research and Innovation by the Australian Embassy, Jakarta. The award was in recognition of his leadership role in the development and setting of national science and technology policies and targets and, in particular, for his important leadership role in forging closer relations between the Indonesian and international scientific communities.

Movements
Dr Toni Makkai, currently Director of Australian Institute of Criminology, has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. She will take up her position on 5 May 2008. Toni holds a PhD from the University of Queensland, and spent 6 years at ANU previously as a Fellow in the Faculty Law, and later the Research School of Social Sciences.
Dr Jacqueline Lo has been appointed as the new head of the School of Humanities in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. Jacquie has a BA and PhD from University of Western Australia and is the Founding Chair of the Asian Australian Studies Research Network.
Dr David Carpenter, the ANU Environmental Manager and head of ANUgreen, has left the University to be a manager in the research branch at AusAID.
