Bloodhound sniffs out donors

The newly-formed ANU Red Cross/Red Crescent Club ran the first annual Bush Week Blood Drive last week, signing up close to 100 student blood donors. ANU student coordinator Wil Van Beers (above) prepares to donate with the help of the blood drive's mascot "Armstrong the Bloodhound" in the renovated offices of the University Health Service. The ANU Club has an active, international membership interested in Red Cross/Red Crescent issues locally and abroad. The Red Cross Blood Service has seen a decline in donations in the past few weeks due to colds and other winter illnesses. Whilst not at crisis point yet, the service said it needed to maintain a steady donor base to meet demand for blood in the ACT.
