High interest in mid-year entry scheme

The ANU has expanded its program of mid-year entries, generating considerable interest from potential mature-aged students.

The program now covers courses in Arts, Asian Studies, Economics, Commerce, Information Technology, Music and the Visual Arts and students accepted for mid-year entry would begin in the second semester starting July 20.

Board of the Faculties Chairman, Professor Richard Campbell said the wider range of courses on offer had led to a bigger response than previous years.

"This is the first time that options for mid-year entry to ANU degree courses have been so broad and we have been delighted by the response from potential students," Prof Campbell said.

"Calls for information about mid-year entry are at a high level (50 to 80 a day), especially from people who are not school leavers. Based on past experience, we had thought that enquiries about ANU's mid-year entry program would mainly be from people who deferred entering university at the beginning of the 1998 academic year.

"However, there has been great interest from possible mature-age students and from students wishing to transfer to ANU from other universities."

Prof Campbell said that while some seeking information about the mid-year program were ineligible for entry, ANU staff had been able to help them with information about the University Preparation Scheme.

Applications for mid-year entry close on June 30 and people seeking information about courses should contact the ANU Admissions Office.
