Not interested

The May 6 edition of the ANU Reporter contains an article entitled "Chemistry of cosmetics helps sell the subject to disinterested students".

The word "disinterested" means unbiased. It does not mean "uninterested" (Concise Oxford Dictionary), which in the context of the otherwise excellent article appears to be the meaning intended.

The error is frequent in the popular press. Could a university newspaper try to avoid it?
