Wood workshop chairs success

Sitting pretty: George Ingham (left) and Ian Gutheridge, of the Canberra School of Art Wood Workshop with two of their recent designs. The chair and the table exploit the high-strength qualities of native spotted gum. The innovative chair minimises the amount of Australian timber needed to make a seat with enough strength to take a person's weight. The chair's construction includes a pack-flat capability which makes them easy to disassemble for shipment or export. The design project received support from the Department of Primary Industries, the Queensland Government and the Salisbury Research Centre.
