ANU selects woman for AV-CC course
Australian universities were recently invited to nominate up to three women to attend an Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee (AV-CC) Staff Development and Training Program in Sydney this June titled "Women in Leadership". The aim of the course is to recognise and enhance women's leadership capacities and influence with universities. At the request of Ms Margaret Ford, Director of the Human Resources Division, the Organisational Planning and Development Branch called for applications from women to attend the program and the Equity and Diversity Unit publicised the course and encouraged applications. After considering the applications, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor David Green selected and nominated Dr Juliet Behrens of the Faculty of Law to represent the ANU. In notifying the unsuccessful applicants, Professor Green wrote: "As
assisting the careers of academic and general staff women staff is consistent
with the University's gender equity objectives, I am hopeful that it would
be possible to increase the number of nominations to the AV-CC in 1999."
