Nominations open for staff excellence awards

Nominations are now open for the 1998 awarding of the Council Medal for General Staff Excellence.

The award, to recognise and encourage outstanding contributions of general staff members of the university, was established following the recommendation of the 50th Anniversary working party. The first awards were presented at conferring of degrees ceremonies last year.

Any full- or part-time general staff member who has been employed by the University for at least five years at the time of nomination, is eligible for the award and may be nominated by a supervisor, colleague, student, union or member of the wider community.

The medal will be awarded on the basis of one or more of the following criteria:

· consistent and outstanding performance by a member of general staff at work in an area within the University, or within several areas

· significant innovation and demonstrated improvement in work practices arising out of the work of the staff member

· outstanding service to the campus community

· assistance in outreach to the community, to the benefit of the University, or on behalf of the University community, over and above normal duties

· length of service to the University.

Nominations, on the appropriate form, close on Friday June 5 1998.
