No comparison to cult members

I refer to PhD Student Duncan Beard's comments in Julian Lee's artical on "Cult Religions ..." (ANU Reporter, April 4).

May I say I found Beard's comments very offensive. I, like many others, compare myself to an "early Christian".

That is to say I worship Jesus the resurrected "guy", not "a guy nailed to a bit of wood".

Is Beard really suggesting that myself and other Christians are as "crazy" as the Heaven's Gate cult?

I hope not.

Just because Heaven's Gate "didn't set out to harm or kill anybody else", did that make their actions acceptable?

No way! The Bible teaches us that our lives are precious.

To make comparisons between a cult that committed mass suicide and early Christians is way out of line.
