Taiwanese visit CSA exhibitBy Ingrid Lamberts The ANU Institute of the Arts (ITA) hosted a four-day visit by officials from the highly prestigious Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei, in late August. Principal Dr Yang Jen-Hsiao, Director of Art Mr Su Hsien Fa, and Director of Music Ms Cheng Ya Hsiang were shown the working life of ITA. They also held several discussions with ANU officials. As part of the visitors' tour of the Canberra School of Art (CSA) they were shown around the Australian Artists Against Racism exhibition in the CSA Foyer Gallery. The show, subtitled "Collaborate for tolerance and respect", was made up of a number of powerful joint works by Australians of all ethnic backgrounds. Unfortunately, any attempt to form educational and cultural links between such institutions has now to include repairing the reputation that Australia has in some countries as being racist and even unsafe for Asian students. The AAAR exhibition was a graphic illustration of the sentiment behind the ITA's invitation for collaboration with its Taiwanese visitors. | |
