Who are we?

We are a group of women who are associated with the ANU in various ways.  The Club has been meeting since 1961 to interact socially and do the things we enjoy together.  We welcome newcomers to our activities.

What do we do?

We have various activities during the year.  These include a coffee morning in the Molly Huxley Room above the gateway to the rear courtyard of University House, a luncheon and dinners at University House.  As well we go on outings of interest that are listed below for 2009. Transport for visitors can often be arranged.

Group

Meeting Time

Bushwalking GroupThe Bushwalking Group meets every Wednesday at 9:15am, generally returning to Canberra by about 3pm.  A variety of walks is offered and transport assistance is available.  Strong shoes and outdoor wear are essential. There is also a short walk programme.
Bird Watching GroupThe Bird Watching Group meets on Thursday (9am-11am) weather permitting.  Binoculars and bird watching books may be borrowed and transport assistance is available

The Morning Book Reading Group meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday in the month at 10am in members' homes.

Evening Book Reading Group

The Evening Book Reading Group meets monthly on the third Thursday in the month at 7:30pm in members' homes.

The following non-affiliated groups may be of interest to members:

Tennis Club

The Tennis Club meets on Wednesday at 9am at Turner Tennis Club, corner of McCaughey and Condamine streets, Turner. Anyone for social tennis is welcome.

English Classes

English Classes for the families of overseas students who are studying at the ANU are held in the hall at the Baptist Church, 15-17 Condamine Street, Turner, every Monday and Wednesday (9:30am to 12 noon), during school term.  A gold coin donation per class is requested.  Child minding facilities are provided during classes.  Please bring a bilingual dictionary, if possible.  Pot luck dinners are held every two months and excursions are arranged.

The History of our Club was launched at the AGM in 2005.  Copies are available at a cost of  $5.  Copies will be available at our coffee morning on March 16 .

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Subscriptions ($10 per year, or $5 for short term visitors up to 6 months) for 2009 are due unless you have already paid (eg at the AGM).

Club members are included in the ANU's public liability insurance cover for recognised Club activities.  Non-members (guests or spouses who occasionally accompany a member) are NOT covered for any off-campus Club activity.  The committee has, on advice from the ANU legal office, taken out public liability insurance cover for 2009.  A levy of $5-$10 per event will be payable for such guests with a maximum of $30 per calendar year for any individual.  It is essential that all participants in off-campus activities be financial members of the Club or, as guests, fill in the public liability insurance form for non-members.  This issue will be reviewed at the AGM.

PARKING AT ANU this year will be very difficult.  Please allow time to find a space and to walk to the venue.  For functions at the House it will be possible to collect a permit from Reception on the day, which will avoid the two hour limit.  This will only be a "permit to hunt".  You are urged to car pool.

Calendar of Meetings and Activities 2009

We welcome newcomers and visitors to the University; please make our programme known to them.   Please note that when catering is involved NO late acceptances will be possible apart from the Coffee Morning and the Annual General Meeting.
