Summary of Awards
Peter Baume Award
Purpose
This Award is the University’s most prestigious. It is named after former ANU Chancellor, the Hon. Professor Peter Baume AC.
The Award recognises eminent achievement and merit of the highest order.
Nature
A glass sculpture designed by the School of Art. One award may be made in any given year.
Eligibility
Staff, students and alumni of the University whose contribution to the economic, cultural, scientific or social development
of Australia or the international community has demonstrated eminent achievement and merit of the highest degree.
Nomination Process
A nomination with a brief supporting statement may be made by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellors or College Convener.

Chancellor's Award For Distinguished Contribution to the University
Purpose
The Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Contribution to the University recognises distinguished service of a high degree.
Nature
A glass sculpture designed by the School of Art. Up to five may be awarded in any given year.
Eligibility
Staff, students and alumni of the University whose contribution to the economic, cultural, scientific or social development of Australia or the international community has demonstrated distinguished service of a high degree.
Nomination Process
A nomination with a brief supporting statement may be made by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Pro Vice-Chancellors or College Convenors.

Award for Outstanding Service to the Campus Community
Purpose
To recognise outstanding contributions to the life of the campus community. The Award recognises voluntary and sustained contributions over and above what might reasonably be expected in the course of duty and which enhance the general welfare and life of the campus and benefit the institution as a whole.
Nature
A glass sculpture designed by the School of Art. Up to five may be awarded in any given year.
Eligibility
Staff and Visiting Fellows who have volunteered their time, expertise, skills and knowledge over several years, and demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the campus community beyond the normal expectations of their position.
Nomination Process
A nomination with a brief supporting statement may be made by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Pro Vice-Chancellors or College Convenors. Staff or Students Associations are encouraged to submit nominations through the relevant College Convenor.

Vice-Chancellor's Award for Career Achievement
Purpose
To encourage, promote and recognise outstanding career achievement and professional development of staff while at the University over several years.
The Career Achievement Award recognises outstanding work performance and professional career development of University staff. The Award acknowledges the value the University places on the skill, knowledge, expertise and work performance of academic and general staff, as well as future career potential and commitment to the University.
Nature
A commemorative plaque and $1,000. Up to five awards may be made in any given year.
Eligibility
All staff members who have worked at the University for at least five years as of 31 December in the year of application are eligible. Candidates will need the support of a sponsor, that is, a supervisor or other person within the University who will prepare the Supporting Statement.
Criteria
Nominations will be assessed on the basis of written evidence that supports claims against the following criteria:
- Impressive career path and achievement while at the ANU over at least five years;
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development training programs that have improved skills, knowledge and expertise;
- Consistently outstanding work performance;
- Commitment to career goals and potential for further career advancement at the ANU.
Nomination Procedure
Documentation submitted with the nomination must include:
- Completed ANU Awards Nomination form (pdf document);
- Sponsor’s written statement (of no more than two pages) supporting the nomination;
- Endorsement of a Dean, Director, College Convenor or Senior Executive of the University.

Vice-Chancellor's Award for Innovation & Excellence in Service Quality
Purpose
To encourage, promote and recognise staff innovation and excellence in service quality that supports the University’s mission and core activities of research and education in an enlightened and efficient manner.
Nature
A commemorative plaque and $1,000. Up to three awards may be made in any given year. Award winning teams will receive a commemorative plaque and team members will share up to $4,000.
Eligibility
All staff members and work areas of the University are eligible. Candidates will need the support of a sponsor, that is, a supervisor or other person within the University who will prepare the Supporting Statement.
Criteria
Nominations will be assessed on the basis of written evidence that supports one or more of the following:
- Demonstrated improvement in the quality of service provision for students and/or staff;
- Demonstrated initiatives resulting in considerable cost reductions and efficiencies in work practices;
- Demonstrated contributions to creating an enabling culture within the University’s administration.
Nomination Procedure
Documentation to be submitted with the nomination must include:
- Completed ANU Awards Nomination form (pdf document);
- Sponsor’s written statement (of no more than two pages) supporting the nomination. Team or work area nominations should identify the members of the team to be nominated;

Vice-Chancellor's Award for Community Outreach
Purpose
To support, encourage and reward University staff who volunteer their time, skills and expertise to the wider community in excess of the normal requirements of their substantive position.
Nature
A commemorative plaque and a donation of $1,000 to a community organization of the winner’s choice. Up to three awards may be made each year.
Eligibility
All staff members and work areas of the University are eligible. Candidates will need the support of a sponsor, that is, a supervisor or other person within the University who will prepare the Supporting Statement.
Criteria
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of written evidence that supports claims of activities which benefit the University by promoting the interaction of members of the University within the community. These may include:
- Professional activity of relevance to the School/Department within the wider community e.g. professional activity which ensures currency of professional knowledge and strengthens links with professional practitioners and institutions;
- Service activities that focus on improving the quality of community life through work with community groups, schools, industry or professional organisations;
- Involvement in professional consultancy work for community, government or private sector organisations;
- Artistic and cultural activities;
- Press and media work.
Nomination Procedure
Documentation to be submitted with the application/nomination must include:
- Completed ANU Awards Nomination form (pdf document);
- Sponsor’s written statement (of no more than two pages) outlining details of the Candidate’s community outreach involvement and the work of the organisation;
- Endorsement of a Dean, Director, College Convenor or Senior Executive of the University.

Prize for Innovative IT Application on Campus
Purpose
To encourage the creation of world-class information environments for research, teaching, learning and administration by acknowledging and rewarding innovative application of information technology on campus.
Nature
A commemorative plaque and $1,000 for individuals or up to $4000 to be shared by team members. Up to two awards may be made in any given year.
Eligibility
All University staff and work areas/teams are eligible to apply for the Prize. Candidates will need the support of a sponsor, that is, a supervisor or other person within the University who will prepare the Supporting Statement.
Criteria
Nominations will be assessed on the basis of written evidence that supports claims of innovative application of information technology on campus that has helped to create a world-class information environment for research, teaching, learning or administration. Examples might include:
- Creative application of information technology to education goals and/or learning materials;
- Administrative gains in efficiency and cost reduction through the use of information technology.
Nomination Procedure
Documentation to be submitted with the application/nomination must include:
- Completed ANU Awards Nomination form (pdf document);
- Sponsor’s written statement (of no more than two pages) addressing the criteria and outlining the benefits gained through the IT application. Team or work area nominations should identify the members of the team to be nominated.
- Endorsement of a Dean, Director, College Convenor or Senior Executive of the University.
