Vice Chancellor's Award for Community Outreach

Purpose

To support, encourage and reward University staff who volunteer their work-related skills and expertise to the wider community beyond the normal requirements of their substantive position.

Nature

A commemorative plaque and a donation of $1,000 to a community organization nominated by the award recipient and approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Up to three awards may be made each year.

Eligibility

All staff members and work areas of the University are eligible for this Award. Candidates will need the support of a sponsor, that is, a supervisor or other person within the University who will prepare the Supporting Statement.

Criteria

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of written evidence that supports claims of activities which benefit the University and community by promoting the interaction of members of the University within the community. These activities may include:

  • Professional activity of relevance to the School or Department within the wider community, for example, activity which ensures currency of professional knowledge and strengthens links with professional practitioners and institutions;
  • Service activities that focus on improving the quality of community life through work with community groups, schools, industry or professional organisations; and
  • Artistic and cultural activities.

Assessment criteria include the amount of time committed to the activities and the extent to which the effort is performed pro bono.

Nomination Procedure

Documentation to be submitted with the application/nomination must include:

  • Completed ANU Awards Nomination form (pdf document);
  • Sponsor's written statement (of no more than two pages) outlining details of the Candidate's community outreach involvement and the work of the organisation; and
  • Endorsement of a College Dean/Director or Senior Executive of the University.

ANU Awards Ceremony - 2009


This Ceremony is an opportunity for the University to recognise the contribution and achievement of many of its staff. 

Staff who have reached the 25 and 40 year milestones and staff who have been awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for achievement, service and contribution to the University, will be recognised at this event.

It will be an occasion to celebrate the role of all staff in making The Australian National University one of the best universities in the world.

The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor warmly invite all staff to attend.
