Schedule 4 - Leave and Breaks Entitlements

S4.1 Annual Leave

S4.1.1  Annual leave is a benefit to both the University and to its staff and should be taken to ensure refreshment.  The table below outlines the provisions for annual leave.

20 days per year accrued on a fortnightly basis (cumulative)

All unused entitlements will be paid out on termination for general staff and Academic staff on fixed term appointments of 3 years or less.

40 days permitted accrual before action taken to reduce leave

For academic staff on a standard appointment or a fixed term appointment of more than 3 years, annual leave is deemed to have been taken in full during the period of employment

General staff employed at the Siding Spring Observatory, Coonabarabran

An additional 2 days per year accrued on a fortnightly basis (cumulative)

12 hour Security staff at Facilities and Services Division

30 days per year (cumulative)

General staff on permanent or rotating shifts

An additional 5 days per year accrued on a fortnightly basis (cumulative)

50 days permitted accrual before action taken to reduce leave

General staff employed at Warramunga Seismic Array Unit

An additional 7 days per year accrued on a fortnightly basis (cumulative)

General staff employed at the North Australia Research Unit

An additional 5 days per year accrued on a fortnightly basis (cumulative)

 

S4.1.2 Subject to appropriate notice and operational requirements of the work area, staff with sufficient credit should be able to take at least 20 days annual leave in an unbroken period; such leave will not be unreasonably refused.

S4.1.3 A staff member may, subject to approval by his or her delegate, purchase extra annual leave in accordance with University policy.

S4.1.4 Annual leave cannot be taken in advance of accruals, except in exceptional circumstances to be determined by the delegate. The University will deduct annual leave balance debits from termination pay.

S4.1.5  Illness during annual leave and Long Service Leave (LSL)
A general staff member who is ill during annual leave or LSL and an academic staff member who is ill during LSL, will have leave entitlements re-credited on submission of a medical certificate. General staff will be re-credited out of their personal leave balance.
