Schedule 3 – Overtime, Shift Work, Loadings and Allowances
S3.6 General staff allowances
S3.6.1 Indexation of Allowances
The University will adjust allowances within this schedule annually on the date of effect of salary increases specified in 17.3 by:
S3.6.1 (a) the rate of salary increase taking effect on the date of adjustment of the allowance;
S3.6.1 (b) the level of indexation of University operating grants for that year; or
S3.6.1 (c) the percentage change in the national Consumer Price Index from the previous financial year, as published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
S3.6.2 Higher duties allowance (HDA) for general staff
S3.6.2 (a) Where it is essential that duties of a higher level are carried out, a general staff member may be paid a HDA and this will be paid to a staff member performing higher duties in the following circumstances:
(i) where the maximum salary of the position of which the staff member acts is not in excess of the salary range for ANU Officer 7 level and the staff member performs those higher duties for a period in excess of 2 consecutive working days;
(ii) where the members of staff in the Grounds, Hospitality and Maintenance streams are required to act in positions where the salary does not exceed the maximum salary point of the current ANU Officer 7 level may receive HDA where the occupant of the higher level position is absent 2 working days or more; and
(ii) where the maximum salary for the position in which the staff member acts exceeds the maximum of the salary range for ANU Officer 7 level and the staff member performs those higher duties for a period in excess of 5 consecutive working days.
S3.6.2 (b) The HDA will be
(i) the difference between the salary rate for the staff member's substantive ANU Officer level and incremental step and the base salary rate of the ANU Officer level at which the higher duties are being undertaken; or
(ii) a fixed amount approved by the delegate or agent for the period of higher duties, provided that amount is not less than the amount to which the staff member would be entitled pursuant to S3.6.2 (b) (i).
S3.6.2 (c) HDA will not be payable within a broadband.
S3.6.2 (d) Where a staff member performs higher duties for a period of between one half of a day and one full day, the period of higher duties will be regarded as a full day for the purposes of payment of the allowance.
S3.6.2 (e) Where a staff member performs only part of the duties of a more senior staff member, HDA may be paid at an appropriate percentage of the allowance specified in S3.6.2 (b) (i).
S3.6.3 Long service allowance for general staff
Existing arrangements including, the payments and indexation of the ANU Long Service Allowance (LSA), will continue.
S3.6.4 Overtime allowances
S3.6.4 (a) Availability Duty Allowance: A staff member who is placed on availability duty or continuous standby and who is at a level not greater than ANU Officer 7 is entitled to the allowance specified below for each week (Sunday to Saturday inclusive) of availability duty. Where a staff member is placed on such duty for less than 1 week, the allowance will be calculated on the basis of one-seventh of the weekly allowance for each day of availability duty.
S3.6.4 (b) Overtime allowances will be paid in accordance with the following table:

S3.6.5 Annualised allowance for security officers
The annualised allowance for a security officer, as specified in S3.3.3, is set out in the following table. The allowance will be salary for all purposes other than the calculation of overtime and absorbs any entitlement to an annual leave loading.

S3.6.6 Specific Pathogen Free Allowance
A staff member working in the Specific Pathogen Free Mouse Breeding Colony in the Animal Breeding Establishment of the John Curtin School of Medical Research who is required to carry out the major part of his or her work in the Specific Pathogen Free area is entitled to an allowance of $0.64 per hour in addition to his or her normal rate of pay; and an allowance of $1.78 on each occasion that he or she is required to submit a nasal swab. These allowances will be indexed in accordance with S3.6.1(b).

S3.6.9 Uniform Allowance
S3.6.9(a) For the purposes of S3.6.9 and S3.6.10 a "uniform" will mean any coat, dress, cap, apron, cuffs or other special article of clothing the University requires an employee to wear in the performance of work.
S3.6.9(b)A staff member who is employed in the Hospitality Stream who is required by the University to wear a uniform while on duty will be paid the actual cost of providing or replacing the uniform.
S3.6.9(c)By mutual agreement between the University and the staff member, the University may instead of paying the allowance, provide and where necessary replace the uniform.
S3.6.10 Laundry Allowance
A staff member who is employed in the Hospitality stream who is required by the University to wear a uniform while on duty will be paid a laundry allowance of $8.71 per week, to be indexed in accordance with S3.6.1(c). By mutual agreement between the University and the staff member, the University may instead of paying the allowance, provide a laundering service.
