55. Severance pay
55.1 Severance pay
Subject to 55.2 below, a staff member is entitled to severance pay if he or she is on a second or subsequent fixed term Employment Agreement and their employment is not converted or if they are on their first period of fixed term employment of not less than three years for general staff or five years for academic staff where the work continues and is or is to be offered to someone else and the Employment Agreement is not renewed or converted.
55.2 Transitional Severance Arrangements
Nothing in any variations of this Agreement, approved by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission or its successor, will alter the circumstances providing for severance payments or increase or decrease any entitlement to severance pay in respect of any fixed term employment agreement in force at the date of variation. Subject to 55.1 above, a staff member who commenced a fixed term Employment Agreement with the University after the date of variation of this Agreement is entitled to severance pay upon termination of employment.
55.3 Severance pay will be paid in accordance with the following table:

55.4 For the purposes of this clause, ‘week’s pay’ means the ordinary time rate of pay for the staff member concerned.
