The Varied Australian National University Enterprise Agreement 2005-2008

Part Five - Training and Development

34. Career and Performance Development

34.1  The Career and Performance Development Scheme (the “CPD Scheme”) is the formal and periodic setting of a staff member’s performance objectives and the assessment of performance and development needs. All staff with standard employment, and academic and general staff with fixed term employment of 12 months or more will participate in this scheme. The scheme is not meant to replace regular feedback and discussion between the supervisor and the staff member about the staff member’s performance or other workplace matters.

34.2  Every staff member’s career pathway is different, and the CPD Scheme provides the focus for professional development of staff.

34.3  The Scheme will operate in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures, including the Rewarding, Enhancing and Managing Academic Staff Performance policy and the equivalent policy for general staff. The CPD Scheme will have regard to Minimum Standards for Academic Levels and the General Staff Position Classification Standards for guidance as to the broad work requirements of each level. Each staff member will have an agreed development plan, consistent with the short and long term priorities of the University, College and/or organisational unit within which the staff member is located.
