30. Parental Leave

30.1  Parental Leave is leave associated with the birth or adoption of a child or children. The aims of this leave are to further enhance the ability of University staff members to balance their work and non-work commitments, and to attract and retain female staff members.

30.2  The first 20 weeks of parental or adoption leave will count as service for all purposes whether unpaid or paid.

30.3  In this clause, “spouse” includes a current or former (except for Adoption leave) husband or wife, de facto spouse or same sex partner; and “primary care-giver” means the child’s parent who has the dedicated responsibility for the day-to-day care of the child.

30.4  The procedures for parental leave will be applied in accordance with University policy and procedure and the entitlements for this clause are detailed in S4.4.
