How to Apply for Vacancies at the ANU

Information for Applicants

Your application should consist of:

  • A statement addressing the selection criteria
  • A current curriculum vitae which includes the names and contact details of at least three referees (preferably including a current or previous supervisor)
  • Other documentation, if required
  • These documents need to be in Microsoft Word, RTF or PDF format. The upload limit is 2MB per document.

For speed and efficiency of processing applications, all applicants are encouraged to apply on-line at http://jobs.anu.edu.au

If you are unable to make an electronic application, you must also submit the University’s Job Application Cover Sheet.

Hard copy applications should be forwarded to the “Applications Officer” care of the School or Department in which the advertised position is located.

Applications which do not address the selection criteria may not be considered for the position.

All job applications will be acknowledged upon receipt, by either an email, or a post card to your mailing address.

Addressing the Selection Criteria

Your statement of claims is an important part of your application and is the basis for which applicants are short listed for further consideration. In response to each criterion, you should outline your skills, experience, achievements, abilities, and personal qualities relevant to the criterion and to the requirements of the position. It is important to provide evidence to back up your claims. Where possible use actual examples of what you have done, how well you did it and what you achieved. It is important that your statement be comprehensive but succinct.

Applicants are required to have an understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity principles — for assistance in addressing this in your application see: http://www.anu.edu.au/equity/_documents/PDF/addressing_eo_criteria.pdf.

Eligibility for Employment

Before commencing employment, successful applicants must be eligible to work in Australia and agree to provide relevant personal information for pre-employment checking (which may include police records checks). Check your eligibility to work in Australia with the Australian Immigration Guide on Work Rights (Department of Immigration and Citizenship).

The University may sponsor temporary and permanent resident visas for overseas persons who have been offered a position at the University.

The University does not normally accept applications for general staff positions from applicants without either Australian residency or a valid work permit. For some academic positions this is also the case. Positions that require applicants to have Australian residency or a valid work permit will be indicated as such on the ANU jobs website. If in doubt, applicants should contact the Enquiries Officer for the position to ascertain whether the School or Department is prepared to sponsor a visa.

The ANU does not expect to offer employment to someone who has taken a redundancy or an early retirement package from the University within the last 12 months.
