Case management role, responsibilities and delegations

Rehabilitation case management by IPAR is available for any staff member with an injury or illness affecting their capacity to work, whether compensable or not.

The ANU rehabilitation case manager’s role is to:

  • assess return to work options for staff;
  • coordinate return to work plans for staff with the aim of  early  return  to, or maintenance at work, on the normal hours for injured or ill staff.

The return to work process involves consultation between the staff member and their supervisor, doctor and rehabilitation provider to negotiate duties and hours that suit the medical condition or injury.

The ANU rehabilitation case manager is a delegate for the ANU’s workers compensation insurer Comcare, and as such has certain delegations under the SRC Act.

For accepted Comcare claims, the Case Manager has delegation to require an employee to undergo a rehabilitation assessment and to participate in a rehabilitation program.

The IPAR Administrator provides administrative support for case managers and liaises with Comcare on behalf of staff who have submitted claims.

IPAR specialist staff (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, rehabilitation counsellor and ergonomist) provide assessment and vocational rehabilitation services.

Our Supporting Networks

Occupational Strain Liaison Officers (OSLO).

The OSLO acts as a local agent for computer workstation screening assessments and provides information and support to staff to prevent occupational strain injuries.

Rehabilitation and Compensation Liaison Officers (RACLO).

The RACLO is the local point of contact, in the Faculties and Institutes, for staff who suffer an injury or illness.  The RACLO is aware of the Comcare processes and can liaise with the IPAR Rehabilitation case manager and the relevant supervisor on behalf of the staff member.

OHS representatives and consultative committees.

Prevention programs such as manual handling injury reduction are run in consultation with OHS consultation processes.
