Absences of staff from the University must be covered by an appropriate form of approval. There are four major reasons why the University permits its staff to be absent from the ANU: 1. Absences which further the interests of the University through the contribution made to research and/or teaching and/or to staff development such as: - Outside Studies and Professional Development Programme (including release exclusively for research)
- Attendance at conferences
- Fieldwork
- Business trips
2. Absences which provide leave for staff as specified in conditions of service. 3. Absences which are primarily in the interest of the staff member and which are consistent with University policy e.g. secondments (either within the University or to external organisations) or absences for carrying out approved outside work (academic staff members or general staff members) 4.
