Elibibility Criteria for Incoming Students

Incoming students to the ANU as fee paying Study Abroad students (applying directly or through a sponsor) or as Exchange students , through our student exchange agreements must complete the following eligibility criteria: 

General Criteria for all Incoming Students

  • All applicants must have successfully completed at least two semester (one full year) of college/university study before enrolling at ANU;
  • All applicants are expected to have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4 point scale, or the equivalent;
  • The Australian National Internships Program requires a higher GPA, as well as successful completion of two full years of study.
  • Applicants applying for admission to courses at:

o       The School of Art (College of Arts and Social Sciences) Applicants for Visual Arts courses must submit a folio of 12-15 images (slides, photographs, CD, jpeg files or a website) of current work at their home institution.

o       The School of Music (College of Arts and Social Sciences) Applicants for music courses must submit a quality audio/video tape of themselves performing. Musicology and composition students should check the requirements with the Student Mobility Program.

  • Applicants wishing to study at the ANU College of Law must be a Law major at their home university;
  • Applicants wishing to study a full time load (four x 6 unit courses) at the ANU College of Business and Economics (Actuarial Studies, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Business and International Business, Business Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Financial Statistics) must be studying these disciplines at their home university. However students not majoring in one of these areas may take up to one College of Business and Economics course.

English Language Requirements

Students whom programs are not delivered in English must meet the English Language requirement of the ANU as follows:

  • IELTS  (English Language Testing System)

General Admission: 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each of the four components;

ANU College of Law: 7 overall with at least 6.5 in each of the four components;

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – Paper based test

General Admission: Minimum 570 and 4.5 Test of Written English (TWE);

ANU College of Law: Minimum 600 and 5.0 Test of Written English (TWE);

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – Computer based test

General Admission: Minimum 230 and 4.5 TWE;

ANU College of Law:  Minimum 250 and 5.0 TWE  

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – Internet based test

General Admission: Minimum 90 and minimum of 20 in each of the four sections

ANU College of Law: Minimum 100 and minimum of 22 in each of the four sections
