New Travel Grants

4.  Support for coursework student travel

The Vice-Chancellor has agreed to make available $500,000 per year in 2007, 2008 and 2009 to enable undergraduate and masters coursework students to undertake a semester of study at an overseas institution.

Purpose of the program

The purpose of the program is to:

  • provide an enriched academic experience for coursework students
  • enable coursework students to gain international experience.

Eligibility/conditions

Applicants will be enrolled in an undergraduate or masters coursework degree at ANU and be making good progress towards the completion of the degree at the time of application.

The period of time spent at the overseas institution will count as credit towards the degree in which the applicant is enrolled at ANU.

International students are eligible to apply but must not undertake a period of study in an institution in their home country.

Preference may be given to applicants who have completed one year (full-time) of their candidature.

Preference may be given to applicants proposing to spend their period of overseas research at one of the IARU partners.

Funding is provided under this program on the basis that it is in addition to existing funding programs. Any area of the University reducing its current support for travel for undergraduate or masters coursework students will be ineligible to seek funding under this program for a period of 12 months.

Funding available

Applicants can seek funding of up to $5,000, depending on the country. Funding must be used to defray costs associated with the visit.  

Applications

Applications must include:

  1. Name and contact details of the applicant
  2. Name of the institution to be visited an proposed dates for the visit
  3. Details of the academic program which the applicant intends to pursue during the visit
  4. Details of any other sources of support for the visit
  5. Documentation demonstrating that the overseas host institution is willing to host the applicant’s visit
  6. A brief curriculum vitae (less than one page)

Applications must be signed by the relevant College Dean who must certify that the applicant can receive full credit for the course of study proposed in the application.

Applicants must provide evidence that they will be accepted at the host institution.

Applications will be received throughout the year.

Applications should be submitted to the Registrar, registrar.rss@anu.edu.au

Selection

Applications will be assessed on the academic merits of candidates and the extent to which the proposed visit will enrich the applicant’s academic development.

Applications will be assessed the Registrar and a small group of academics from the ANU Colleges.
