Student Involvement

Student Exchange with IARU Partners

Both undergraduate and graduate student exchange opportunities exist with National University of Singapore (NUS), University of Copenhagen and ETH Zurich. We hope that this arrangement will be extended to include Peking and Tokyo in the near future.

Applicants wishing to study as an exchange student at an IARU partner university should apply through the ANU Student Exchange Program (ANUEP).  Please refer to the Student Exchange website for more information about eligibility and the nomination process.

Successful applicants may wish to apply for an ANU Travel Grant to assist with costs associated with their visit.

Students approved to spend time on exchange at an IARU partner are eligible to receive additional funding in the form of an economy return airfare (on presentation of at least 3 travel quotes).

Higher Degree Research Student Visits to IARU Partners

While there are no formal student exchange arrangements in place at a PhD level, higher degree research (HDR) students are able to independently arrange a research visit to an IARU partner using existing networks.  HDR students will be considered visitors at the IARU partner but not “exchange students”.

The Vice Chancellor has made available travel grants (ANU travel grant) to enable HDR students to undertake a period of study at an overseas institution.  To access the ANU travel grant, applicants must have completed one year full-time (or equivalent) of their candidature.  Applicants may seek funding of up to $5000.

Research students approved to spend time at an IARU partner may also apply for funding (IARU grant) in the form of a return economy airfare on presentation of at least 3 travel quotes.   The Alliance Section also offers additional funding of $1000 to HDR students undertaking research at an IARU partner for longer than 3 months (on a case-by-case basis).

HDR Students applying for both the ANU Travel Grant and the IARU grant should forward their completed ANU Travel Grant application to:

International Alliance Office
c/- Division of Registrar and Student Services
Pauline Griffin Building 11

Once your application for IARU Grant funding has been processed, the International Alliance Office will forward your application to the ANU Travel Grant selection panel for their consideration.

More information on the 2008 GSP is available here.

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2008 GSP HAVE NOW CLOSED.

Campus Sustainability Student Exchange

This winter, ANUgreen is sending two students on a six week Sustainability Internship to Yale University and Oxford University.

Students will work closely with professionals at each of the universities to support the development and implementation of campus sustainability projects. Selected students will live in on-campus housing and work in the university’s sustainability office for the duration of the program.

Project topics will range from energy conservation, transport and waste reduction to student outreach and community engagement.

The internship offers paid travel expenses and a $3000 stipend for food and living expenses.

Interested applicants must submit a CV (including academic results) and a 350-word essay describing how this opportunity fits into your studies and how your experience can contribute to the work of the sustainability office in your preferred destination.

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2008 PROGRAM HAVE NOW CLOSED.
