Welcome to the IARU Global Summer Program at ANU
ANU GSP CoursesIn 2008, ANU will be offering seven GSP courses through four of its colleges: the ANU College of Science, the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, the ANU College of Business and Economics, and the ANU College of Asia and Pacific.
AccommodationWhile in Canberra, GSP students will stay at ANU's on-campus accommodation facility, University House. Winner of the Sulman award for architecture, the building was constructed in the best style of the 1950s, and has maintained its historic quality, character and welcoming ambience for over half a century. Over this time, it has developed a reputation as a home away from home for former prime ministers, judges and scholars. Traditional values, a unique atmosphere and a highly selective clientele have made ANU's University House truly unique. In addition to its beautiful and tranquil surroundings, University House is not far from Canberra's CBD, with its shops, restaurants and nightlife, and Lake Burley Griffin only only a short walk away. Accommodation at University House will be available at a subsidised rate for GSP participants: Twin-share: AU$60 per night including breakfast Single room (shared bathroom facilities): AU$60 per night including breakfast Queen room: AU$120 per night including breakfast Successful applicants to ANU courses will be able to advise us of their preferred style of accommodation and reservations will be made on their behalf.
Course costsTuition fees for all ANU courses is $2,800. The number of nights students will be accommodated in Canberra, and hence accommodation fees, vary between courses. Some courses may incur an additional charge to cover field trip costs. A break down of costs (in Australian dollars) for each course is included below.
Welcome to Canberra, your "Meeting Place" for the GSP
Located on the ancient lands of the Indigenous Ngunnawal people, Canberra's name is thought to mean "meeting place", derived from the Aboriginal word "Kamberra". Canberra is now home to some 320,000 people. Chosen as the site of Australia's national capital in 1908, Canberra is one of the world's few planned cities. Chicago architect, Walter Burley Griffin, was the winner of a worldwide competition to design the new capital. His design incoporated the natural beauty of Australia and the democracy and modern ideals for a national capital. A large artificial lake bearing Burley Griffin's name is a central feature of Canberra and the original focus on the natural elements continues, with the many parks an nature reserves giving Canberra the title of the "Bush Capital". The ANU campus is ideally situated, with the city centre and Lake Burley Griffin just a short walk away. As the political apex of Australia, Canberra is home to the Federal Parliament and is the major city of the self-governing Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It is also the cultural heart of Australia, with the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, the High Court of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, the National Library of Australia, Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre and ANU all short distance from the city centre. Canberra is the setting for the ceremonial, political and community events that reflect our nation's history, spirit and aspirations. As Australia's national university, ANU is well placed in Australia's modern capital city. ANU is integrally connected to the civic and commercial life of Canberra and Australia, and is strengthened through its valuable relationships with government, other national institutions and the diplomatic community in Canberra.
