Scholarships

The ANU Council and Boards Secretariat (CABS) manages the selection process for a number of prestigous national scholarships for Australian graduates to study overseas. These include the Rhodes Australia At Large Scholarships (both the National and Territories' rounds), the Menzies Scholarship to Harvard and the General Sir John Monash Awards (ACT round). CABS also manages the selection process for the Neville Bonner Memorial Scholarship and the Allan Martin Award.

Rhodes Scholarships to Oxford for Australia At Large

Nine Rhodes Scholarships are available each year for outstanding Australians (over 18 and under 25 by 1 October in the year of application) to study at Oxford University. Three Scholarships are now offered in the Australia At Large round. Candidates must apply in the State or Territory in which they received their first degree and should have (or expect to receive in the year of application) First Class Honours. Applications are due by 1 September each year.

Menzies Scholarship to Harvard

Menzies Scholarships are granted each year to talented Australians who have gained admission to a Harvard graduate school. In accordance with its national origin and focus, the ideal candidates are Australians whose primary objective, after completing their studies at Harvard, is to make a significant contribution to this country’s development. Applications are due by 31 January each year.

General Sir John Monash Awards

Eight Monash Awards are available for outstanding Australians who have graduated from Australian universities to study overseas. Applications are due by 31 August each year.

Neville Bonner Memorial Scholarship

This is a Federal Government Scholarship in memory of Mr Neville Bonner AO, the first Indigenous Member of Federal Parliament. One Scholarship is available each year for an Indigenous Australian to study Honours in Political Science or related subjects at any Australian university. Applications are due by 30 November each year.

Allan Martin Award

The Australian Historical Association and the Australian National University offer this award to commemorate the contribution of Professor Allan Martin to Australian History. The Award is available biennially to assist early-career historians to further their research in Australian History, particularly to publish work which will make a significant contribution to the field. The next round of applications are due by end of February 2010.
